  • Byzantines felt that the Pope did not have the right o banish the Emperor from the Church. So these disputes led to Split/Schism in the Christian church in 1054. Because of this split it led for their to be two different versions of Christianity, Roman Catholic in the West, and Eastern Orthodox in the East.
  • Between the 900s and the mid 1000s the Byzantine Empire experienced one last period of greatness.Trade had increased and merchants had come from as far as Russia and Venice. And once again the population had started to grow in diversity and size.
  • As the Economy started to grow in strength, so had the government. The long reign of Basil II from 976 to 1025 had been the most exceptional period of Byzantine history since the rule of Justinian. There was a burst of creativity and they had started to regain some the land they had lost.
  • In 1453 and army of 70,000 Turks Surrounded Constantinople. They cam by both land and sea, they brought cannons to attack the city's walls. While the COnstantinople Army only had about 7,000 people they had held out for two months before the Turks had invaded Constantinople. And like Constantine before them the Turks would rebuild and make the city an imperial capital renamed as what we know to be modern day Istanbul.
