- It is the year 2055, and they have created a time machine that has helped a new firm called Safari Inc. Their philosophy is straightforward: you find an animal, we take you there, and you shoot it. Eckels pays to kill a dinosaur, so he and a few other men travel back in time in a time machine.
- Climax
- The task has been completed. Did he just take a wrong turn?
- Travis outlines the rules to the men as they enter the time machine. They are not allowed to leave the trail under any circumstances, and they are not authorized to kill any animal without his permission. Lesperance demonstrates that even the death of the tiniest animal or plant could have global consequences.
- Falling Action
- The T-Rex approached them while they were passing through the region. Eckels notices that the dinosaur is much larger than he anticipated and believes that the rifle will be ineffective in killing it. Travis advises him to use the path to return to the time machine as he panics. Eckels makes a mistake on the way back...
- Resolution
- Eckels is returning to the time machine, but he takes a wrong turn and kills a butterfly. Travis quickly recognizes this as an issue, and he wishes to leave Eckels behind. One of the men convinces him to return Eckels. Eckels must gather all of the ammunition from the dinosaur body before they go. They returned to the present after that.
- Oh oh... I've just strayed off the beaten path!!
- The men return to the year 2055, but something doesn't feel quite right. The world has changed little, such as who was elected president and the writings on the poster. Travis examines Eckels' sneaker and notices a dead butterfly...

- Eckels' death of the butterfly had an impact on the present and how people live now. Travis does not pay attention to Eckels' regret. The story comes to a close with the sound of a gunshot and thunder.
