- Bismillah khan’s family were all well knownmusicians. He took up music from a young age. He always loved listening to his uncle play the Shehnai. He started getting lessons from his uncle.Bismillah would sit for hours and practice, he also invented raagas that were considered to be beyond the shehnai’s range.
- He accompanied his uncle to the Allahabad music conference. He also was an often heard shehnai player in the All India Radio.

- In 15th August 1947, Bismillah Khan became the first Indian to greet the nation with his Shehnai.

- Ustad Bismillah Khan’s life is a perfect example of the rich, cultural heritage of India, one that effortlessly accepts that many religions can naturally co-exist with each other.
- Bismillah khan was born on 21 March 1916 and passed away on 21 August 2006 at the age of 90.
- During his lifetime he won many awards like the Bharat Ratna, padmashiri etc. He had also gone to many countries playing for kings and taking part in many festivals.
