- The historical circumstances of AIM's foundation was the way Native Americans were being treated by the government and police. Many innocent Native Americans were being arrested for no valid reason.
- During this time Unemployment rate was especially high for Native Americans.
- The original Goal of AIM was to get the rights Native Americans wanted and deserved, and also to stop police brutality.
- Along with wanting to stop police brutality and gain more equal rights. Native Americans also wanted to take control of their communities, and school systems. They were determined to change the way in which they were being forced to live.
- Religion played a role in the way AIM operated . They became more of a spiritual movement while still fighting for what they wanted. #160;Keeping their Native American heritage in mind and their spiritual selves kept them grounded in this their goals to pursue equality /and control.
- Religion also played a major role in the principles Aim went by in this movement. It was essential for them to treat this movement as if they were fighting not only for themselves but also for what their ancestors had left behind. In order for this movement to be successful they had to get back to their roots. This approach not only was a better approach, but also encouraged all Native Americans in general to get back to their roots.
