  • American Isolationism
  • Due to the painful experience of the Great Depression and the tragic losses of WWI the U.S. tried to become less involved in world affairs after WWI ended. This included not joining the League of Nations. as well as excluding Chinese, Japanese, and other Asians. But later the U.S. decided to exclude even Europeans, mostly eastern and southern Europeans.
  • The Spanish Civil War (July 1936)
  • During the Spanish Civil War in September 1936, Army leaders favored fascist-style government and joined General Francisco Franco in a revolt.
  • Germany Reclaims the Sudetenland (September 1938)
  • On November 5, 1937, Hitler announced his plans to absorb Austria and Czechoslovakia into the Third Reich or German Empire. On September 1938, Hitler had long planned 938 undo the Versatile Treaty. This was because it provided limited size of German Army.
  • On September 29, 1938, the Munich Conference was held and Mussolini proposed a meeting for Germany, France, Britain, and Italy for an agreement and to try to avoid war. Hitler and Chamberlain worked on the detail of what became shown as the Munich Pact.

  • On September 1, 1939 German tanks and troops trucks rumble across the Polish border. Their aircraft and artillery began to bomb Polan's capital, Warsaw.
  • The Invasion and Fall of France (May-June 22, 1940)
  • On May 1940, Hitler had begun to quickly sweep thought the Netherlands , as a strategy to strike France. He then sent large forces of tanks and troops to slice through the Ardennes.
