It is revealed that Tom is cheating on Daisy causing distress and ruining their relationship but still they put on smiles to appear happy for Nick and Jordan.

Gatsby made sure to buy the fanciest car not because he needed it but because he wanted people to view him as materialistic.

Gatsby's reality of him not being the perfect man that people think he is, is finally revealed. Gatsby's amazing appearance that he has worked so hard to build up was destroyed when Tom revealed that he gets his money in the non morally right way.
