Deciphering the Message

- In the title says egress, egress means exit. Is it escape directions?

- Captain Fleery agrees that it's probably very old, but it's most likely a recipe or assignment. Lina tries to be polite, but she doesn't see how waiting around will help anything.
- Lina walks in the streets, and bumps into a stranger.
- Hey! What is that note in your hand?
- I found this note and I am trying to de-code it but I am not sure how.
- She decides to go see her friend Lizzie after she gets off work at the Supply Depot. Lina tries to show Lizzie the scraps of paper, but Lizzie has no interest in it, so Lina gives up in trying to talk to Lizzie.
- Lina rushes over to Doon's and asks for help de-coding the message.

- Clary is a friend of Lina's who works in the greenhouses. She is one of the people who Lina can trust and one of the people who knew Lina's father. Clary noticed that in the title of the note, it said egress which means exit.
- Lina and Doon decode the message together.
- The second direction must say to find a stone marked with an E by the river's edge!
- Lina tries to de-code the message as she is walking home but runs into a stranger asking what that note in her hand was. She looks into the note and sees a part that says ip_ __ork which could be Pipeworks. Immediately, Lina thinks of Doon.
- It says ip____ork...is it the Pipeworks?

- After the conversation with the stranger, Lina rushes over to Doon's and asks for help as he has the job of being in the Pipeworks and the Pipeworks is in the note.

- As Lina and Doon try to decode the message together, they figure out that the first direction is still unintelligible, but they reason that the second direction must say to find a stone marked with an E by the river's edge.
