- Jonas was saying his goodbyes to the giver, getting ready to leave when he noticed the giver looked in distress. He asked if he can do anything to help and the giver replied asking for him to take some of the pain away.
- Water
- Jonas sat back down as the giver asked for his hand. Jonas was preparing himself for the memory that the giver so desperately wanted to get rid of. He began to shift into the torturing memory.
- He was confused as he opened his eyes in a noisy, foul-smelling place. It was light outside, early morning. The air was thick with smoke all around. There were groaning men all about and distressed horses trotting around.
- Forgive me
- Jonas turned around to see a dirty-faced boy laying in a pool of fresh crimson blood. He went to go get water to give to the poor boy.
- Jonas came back and tried to pour water into the boy's mouth.His lifeless body lay there as Jonas became traumatized. He felt weak as he could do nothing else to help.
- He opened his eyes and the giver stood in front of him. The giver apologized as he didn't mean to force this upon Jonas so suddenly.
