Hello i'm Henry "Box" Brown and I was born into slavery. As a slave I do not know my birthday.
oh noo!!
One day my master calls my mom and I to his room to inform us that I would be given to his son because I was a good worker
I now work at a tobacco factory for my new master. One day at the market I met my wife Nancy. Nancy and I had three boys and we were very happy.
While at work my family were sold and I no longer had a song to sing. I had to do something. So, I decided to mail myself to the north in a box with the help from a friend and Dr. Smith.
I rode in the box in many uncomfortable positions along the shores of Washington D.C. before reaching my destination in Pennsylvania.
I knew I had made it to freedom when I heard a knock on the box and someone calling my name. When the box was open I was greeted by four of Dr. Smith's friends and they welcomed me to Pennsylvania. March 30,1849 is my birthday, the day I became free.
