  • I am very busy will all that's going on in Europe. I have no time for the colonies at the moment. They can handle it themselves.
  • The purpose of the Magna Carta was guarentee land owners and English people that they would not be unfairly taxed. It served to inspire and justify actions in liberties defense during the Revolution. Rights guarenteed in the Magna Carta were embedded in the laws of the colonists states and later in the Constitution and Bill of rights.
  • Navigation Acts (October 9, 1651)

  • The Enlightenment (Age of Reason) was a cultural and philosophical movement in Europe. It's core beliefts were the goals of rational humanity, these were considered to be knowledge, freedom, religious tolerance and happiness. The Revolution was a period of time where America tried to gain independence from England, these 4 principles were motivating to the colonists.
  • English Bill of Rights (1689)
  • The monarchy can't rule without our consent. This is a great solution
  • Everyone has to obey the law, even the king and queen. NOBODY is above the law.
  • The people will be given individual rights
  • The Salutary Neglect was the policy of the British government to relax the enforcement of strict regulations, particular trade laws, imposed on the American colonies. This added to the Revolution because it allowed for much trade needed between colonies. This helped them rebel against Great Britain.
  • Sugar Act (1764)
  • Oh goodness! Does anybody have sugar? The price is much to high to buy it and I need it to make a cake!

  • The Navigation Acts were a series of English laws that regulated, developed, and promoted English ships, shipping, trade, and social dealings between other countries and within its own colonies. The colonists couldn't trade with anyone except the British. These acts caused resentment within the colonies and were a major factor of the Revolution.
  • The English Bill of Rights created a constitutional monarchy in England, this means the king or queen acts as head of state, but their powers are limited by law. Under this system monarchy couldn't rule without the consent of Parliment ; people were given individual rights. This encouraged government where the rights and liberties of people were safe. These philosphies were inspiring to the Revolution.
  • The Sugar Act , was a law that Parliment passed that reduced the rate of taxes on molasses and listed more foriegn goods to be taxed like sugar, certain wines, pimiento, cambric, printed calico, and more. It started the debate over no taxation without representation, the right of Parliament to tax the colonies, and the controversy over internal and external taxes all these things contributed to the Revolution.
