- Once upon a time, in Paris, France. A young woman from the middle-class imagines living a life that is beyond her reach. One day, her husband brings home tickets to attend a very affluent party. She is eager to go but worried that she will look dowdy

- Despite not being wealthy, Mathilde Loisel aspires to be. Her husband gives her money to purchase a dress, but she's unsatisfied until she requests a necklace from a wealthy friend.
- FALLING ACTION
- We went a lot of struggle for that necklace I borrowed from you.
- Mme. Mathilde Loisel was a star at the ball, but the necklace disappears. She and her husband finally settle on replacing it with a similar-looking item after searching for days. They take ten years to pay for the replacement because it costs more than they make.
- RESOLUTION
- Oh my friend, this necklace is 'false'.
- After ten years of hard work and struggles, the couple pays off all their depts.
- One day, Mathilde saw her friend who owns the necklace as she was walking to the market and she told her what happened.
- Mme. Forestier told Mathilde that the necklace was fake. The readers left contemplating the irony of the situation.
