Hans Christian Gram was born on September 13 1853 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In the 1880’s Gram worked with German pathologist and Microbiologist Carl Friedlander to discover the Gram Staining technique. Both of these scientist were later named pioneer biologist.
The Gram Staining technique was a system of classification, this system of classification has led to 30,000 formally named species of bacteria.
The ground breaking research that Hans Christian discovered that caused his great success was that he found out that some bacteria will be permanently stained with crystal violet but others won’t.
In his research Gram figured out that bacteria that are Gram Positive would be stain purple and the Gram negative bacteria would stain negative
Lately Gram staining has been helpful identifying new antibiotics
