Hello guys!My name is Siddartha. I nam late to my school today. Since it is an emergency I need to take the shortest possible route to school from my home. Please help me in doing so.
Hello Siddartha! I'm Joshna. I am here to help you. Now tell me what is the usual route you take to school?
My home is 4Km exact east to the post office. And my school is exact 3km North to the post office. So I travel a distance of 7km to reach my school daily.
Oh no! You can directly travel from your home to school by travelling across hypotenuse I mean the shortest distance of a triangle.
Explain in detail please..
It's simple. Since your home and school are at exact east and north from post office. A right angle is formed at post office making the two roads of a right angled triangle.
So, with this how can I find the shortest distance??
Since it forms a right angled triangle we can find the hypotenuse of it which is the shortest distance. So, Using pythagoras theorem a2+b2=c2 where C is hypotenuse. Here a=4, b=3 so c= ((4x4)+(3x3))1/2=5Km
So, that reduces my travelling distance by 2Km. Thank you Joshna for your help. Time to leave. Bye!! See you later.
