- Shade
- Go tell the others that we have to evacuate.
- Frieda
- Shade went to alert everyone that they have to evacuate.
- It's my fault that the owls are here.
- Shade
- If the bats don't sacrifice Shade, they're going to burn down Tree Haven.
- Ariel
- Frieda
- No one will take the boy, or anyone else.
- They can take me instead.
- Brutus
- He broke the law, and now he will be punished.
- Bathsheba
- Frieda
- I'm not risking anyone. We've made our final choice.
- The law is the law. Let's just sacrifice Shade so nobody else gets hurt.
- Brutus
- You've made an unwise decision.
- The owls burnt down Tree Haven.
- Frieda and Bathsheba's argument
- Bathsheba
- You have betrayed us, Frieda! You let our home burn to the ground! Who still wants Frieda as the leader?! Speak!
- We have suffered a terrible loss tonight. Our nursery roost for hundreds of years has been burnt down. We have a long journey ahead of us. Thankfully, we haven't lost a single member .
- Frieda
- Later, they all travelled to the Hibernaculum.
- It was nighttime, and Shade was talking to his mom, Ariel.
- Everybody is going to hate me now.
- Shade
- Ariel
- They'll get over it.
- It's not your fault.
- Frieda took me to the echo chamber, and I heard the story of the Great Battle of the Birds and Beasts.
- My father did though, didn't he?
- Shade
- Ariel
- Frieda told you, didn't she? Maybe the stories are true, and we didn't fear the creatures, who knows?
- Not many bats pay attention to those stories nowadays.
- A little bit, I guess.
- Shade
- Ariel
- If you want, I can sing you the route we'll take, and some of the landmarks. Close your eyes and concentrate.
- Are you worried about the trip to the south?

- Ariel sings the route to Shade, and he sees a tall tower, and a white wolf.
