Spartan babies were tested at birth to see If they were strong enough. If they weren't, they'd be left on a mountain to die.

At age 6 or 7, young boys would be taken from their families to be trained.
A ages 6-7, girls would train. This included fighting and dancing. Not to fight, but for giving birth when older.
Between ages 18-20, Spartan boys would take a difficult skills test alone in the woods.
By age 18, most women were married with children. Their husbands could be two or even three times their age!
When men were age 60, they could retire from the military.
Finally, I'm done with war and can be with my wife and children.
