- Minty (Harriet) is born as one of nine children to enslaved parents in Dorchester county Maryland
- When she was a child a two pound weight was thrown at her by an overseer and hit her head which caused her to develop narcoleptic episodes
- in 1844 she married a free black man named John Tubman which she wasn’t married to for very long
- Harriet Tubman escaped slavery herself in 1849 using the secret road network known as the Underground Railroad
- she then went onto help over 300 people including her parents and siblings to freedom using this route
