- Lennie and Crooks were talking about how George, Candy and him were going to buy their own land and have a farm to work and raise animals and crops on. Crooks said that everyone wants to have their own land but nobody ever gets it.
- “Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. It’s just in their head. They’re all the time talkin’ about it, but it’s jus’ in their head”
- Crooks tries to tease Lennie by asking him if George won’t ever come back from town. Lennie tells him that George won’t get in any trouble and that he is careful too.
- “Le’s say he wants to come back and can’t. S’pose he gets killed or hurt so he can’t come back” Lennie struggled to understand. “George won’t do nothing like that,” he repeated. “George is careful. He wont get hurt. He ain’t never been hurt, ‘cause he’s careful.”
- Curley’s Wife came into Crooks’ bunk house and asks where Curley was. She later insults Crooks who had enough of how he was being treated because of his race.
- “I had enough,” he said angrily. “You ain’t wanted here. We told you you ain’t. I tell ya, you got floozy idears about what us guys amounts to.”
- Lennie and Crooks were talking about how Candy, George and him were going to buy their own land and have a farm to work on.
