I wonder what was the origin of this sports event....

It started in Greece. Let me show you.
Today we should honor Zeus, and as a tribute to Him, there will be a great competition for all men to participate!
It all started as a part of their religious festival, in honor of the Gods.
Oh I see....
They mostly included fighting, boxing, poetry, music and running in full armor competitions.
