- I finally got him, you may think I am mad for killing this old man but it had to be done. I then buried his dismembered corpse underneath the wooden planks
- I hated the old man I had to do it. His eye was too evil. I promise you it is not what you think. I am not crazy.
- Everynight for a fortnight, I would sneak into the old man's room and watch him sleep, unknowingly.
- But on the 8th night, I woke him up. I did continue on my regular routine, but this time, when I turned on the lanturn, the light beam was shining right into his vulture eye.
- A neighbor reported hearing a troubled scream?
- I then heard a knock at the door, and saw to police men. I felt so good I invited them to where the old man's corpse was buried!
- Don't worry, everything is just fine. Would you like to come in?
- I foamed – I raved – I swore! But the noise arose over all. Itgrew louder – louder – louder! Was it possible they heard not? Almighty God!No, no! They heard! They suspected! They knew! They were making amockery of my horror! I felt that I must scream or die! And now, again! Hark!Louder! Louder! Louder!“Villains!” I shrieked, “dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up theplanks! Here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart!”
