  • Brabantio Accuses Othello

  • Othello is a good man Brabantio, he will go to Cyprus to defend it from the Turks

  • Cassio Hurts Montano

  • Iago Reluctant To Answer
  • Do you believe Cassio to be honest? Tell me!
  • Well... I don't really know. You should observe your wife closely when she is with Cassio in my opinion.
  • In this scene, Brabantio is accusing Othello of using withcraft to get his daughter to marry him. Othello explains himself in front of the Duke and other people, showing that he is in control and did nothing wrong. "She loved me for the dangers I had passed, /And I loved her that she did pity them" This is a quote from Othello explaining how he and Desdemona fell in love, by his stories that he told and Desdemona heard.
  • Iago Tells Othello False Rumours 
  • I heard Cassio call out Desdemona’s name in his sleep. Also, I did see Cassio wiping his beard with the handkerchief you gave Desdemona
  • Iago knows that Cassio can not handle alcohol well, so he gets him to drink and makes Roderigo provoke him into a fight. He attacks Mayor Montano, and that brings Othello forward. Othello is upset with Cassio and strips him of his lieutenant role. After Cassio is fired, Iago suggests that he ask Desdemona to intervene with Othello in his favour. This will allow Iago to fuel Othello's anger and jealousy.

  • Iago begins to insinuate about an affair between Cassio and Desdemona. Othello asks him a question and he acts reluctant to answer, planting a seed of doubt in Othello's mind. After Othello yells at Iago, he gives him a suggestion to keep an eye on both his wife and Cassio. This scene is important because it begins the growing doubts and suspicions that Othello has in his mind, which will soon turn to deep anger and vowing for revenge.
  • Othello strikes Desdemona
  • I am going to be leaving Cyprus!
  • In this scene, Iago begins sharing false rumours and events that he saw in order to grow Othello's anger. His story enrages Othello. He is successful in doing so because Othello threatens both his wife and Cassio, because he now thinks they are having an affair and he has an unloyal wife. Othello promotes Iago to lieutenant. "Make me to see ’t, or at the least so prove it/ That the probation bear no hinge nor loop/To hang a doubt on, or woe upon thy life!" Othello says those lines because he is looking for solid proof to be upset and hate his wife for her adultery.
  • What??? I will tear Desdemona apart! I need you to kill Cassio for me.
  • This is the climax of the play, Othello's mind is consumed and set on revenge. "In the due reverence of a sacred vow/I here engage my words." These words uttered by Othello show that he is set in his course, and horrible events are yet to come. Othello is convinced of his wife's corruption and unfaithfulness, and he says he will not become soft on her.
  • Othello slaps Desdemona because she is not admitting to being unfaithful to him and he is getting increasingly frustrated with her. Lodovico watches in horror, and is surprised, considering how much Othello is respected and seen as a good man. Othello is not the man he onces used to be, because he is filled with feelings of revenge and hatred, due to Iago's manipulation. " You devil!" Othello says this line when he strikes her, showing that he thinks that she is a bad person in his eyes.
