- Oh well, Grendel's attacks have reached me. I have heard a lot of people died at this hall.
- I have struggled with my enemies before. Now, it is my turn to sort out Grendel. I shall beat him without any weapons!

- Wow! Beowulf my friend, your father killed a member of the Wylfing tribe, causing a horrible feud. The Geats, your father's people, were unable to defend him. When I was a young man, I aided the Geats by bringing Danish warriors. I gave the Wylfings wealth in exchange for the man's death in order to put an end to the feud. You can now pay me back.
- Look at how few fighters I still have. Look how my folks are always afraid. Our lives have been so terrorized by Grendel. Now, take a seat at the feast with your soldiers and let us know what you have planned.

- As I sailed out to sea, I made the decision that I would either kill this monster and free the Danes forever, or else perish in the mead hall under his control. I declare in front of you all now that I will destroy Grendel on my own, without the use of any type of weaponry. I promise I can beat him!
