- As a child, Rosa Parks and her mother lived in the metropolitan area of Montgomery, capital of Alabama
- Rosa Parks gained national prominence in the United States when, on December 1, she refused to comply with a local segregation law. The southern United States was marked by vast segregation legislation, and in Montgomery there was a law that required blacks to sit in the back of buses. If the bus became full, black passengers were forced to give up their seats to whites.
- Rosa Parks was one of the great names in American history in the 20th century. Her action was crucial to giving strength to the movement that was fighting racism in the United States, a problem that has significantly diminished in that country since the 1950s, but which still affects the lives of its population. Even today, in the 21st century, racism is a serious problem in the United States.
