- A couple with a son is moving west before 1870 they were living in Massachusetts. Bill the son is sad to be leaving everything behind.
- time to say good bye
- Then they heard about the homestead act and decided to go west to Colorado using the transcontinental railroad.

- i told this was not a good idea
- They left everything behind. They suffer from the harsh conditions of the trail. By the time they got of the train people had stolen their stuff. They didn't eat for 3 days.

- Due to the effects of settlement they get into a war with the natives. Husband Jim gets involved in the Indian war. They fight over food and land

- mom you can make it take strong !!!
- betty was washing clothes and out of no where a native came. The wife Betty dies on the open range after an Indian attacker.

- They build windmills steel plows groundwater wells barbed wire and sod house they came one of the biggest framers in Colorado all because of the lost of Betty
