  • This act begins in the courtroom with Judge Hathorne questioning Martha Corey. Giles Corey tries to interrupt, claiming that the accusations are just a product of Thomas Putnam’s greed for land. Giles is dragged from the courtroom.

  • Mary admits to Danforth that she and the other girls were faking the whole time. Danforth doesn't believe she's telling the truth.

  • Abigail claims that Mary's spirit is coming towards her in the shape of an evil bird. Abigail claims that a cold wind has enveloped her. Then the rest of the girls follow Abigail's lead.

  • John Proctor stopped Mary from leaving and aggressively grabbed Abigail by the hair. He admits to the court about having an affair with Abigail.
  • Danforth orders Elizabeth Proctor to discuss the affair topic. Elizabeth is unaware that John has already admitted to the affair. She claims she fired Abigail because she was concerned about Abigail's close relationship with her husband. When pressed further, she lies, claiming that her suspicions were baseless in order to protect John's reputation. Danforth believes John is lying about the affair.
