Painful reminders of last summer come back to haunt Melinda, and don't seem to let up. Before, she believed she could focus on school and ignore her internal struggles and feelings, but now seems impossible. She has a tramuatic PTSD reaction in biology and encounters "IT", who we learn is popular jock Andy Evans. Heather begins to have an obsession with the Martha's and abandons Melinda for her 'reputation", showing her true colours. Melinda's lack of commitment shows when she's suspended and skipping class, worrying her parents immensely. Melinda is completely mute, and desperately wants to let people in but can't.

- Melinda has a particularly severe reaction to seeing a dead frog about to be disected and passes out.
- The Breakup
- While in the Metal-works shop hanging posters, Melinda has an encounter with "IT" when he whispers in her ear; this triggers her immensely.
- Meeting
- Melinda works hard to create the posters, but after being criticized harshly by the Martha's, Heather can't defend her either.
- Showing her true colours, Heather admits she used Melinda and decided to blow her off entirely.
- Having many absenses in class and paying little attention, Melinda's parents speak to the Guidence Counselor on what to do.
