In chapter 7 Hester goes to the governor to drop off gloves and to see if anyone is spreading rumors about Pearl. On the way there they are attacked by a group of children but Pearl fights them off.
In chapter 8 Pearl was almost separated from her mom because she was a "demon child". Dimmesdale defended Pearl and her mother. Then people started to say how the investigation of Pearl's father should reopen.
In chapter 9 we find out that Chillingworth has hidden his past from everyone except Hester and that Chillingsworth was a doctor. Dimmesdale becomes ill and moves into a widow's house so that Chillingworth can take care of him.

In chapter 10 Dimmesdale questions the medicine that Chillingworth is giving him and questions Chillingworth. When Pearl notices the two men that are staring at her through the window (Dimmesdale and Chillingworth) she drags her mom away because they were both hanging out in the field. At the end of the chapter Chillingworth sees the letter on Dimmesdale's chest when he's sleeping.
In chapter 11 Dimmesdale starts to get even more sick and starts to go insane. He starts to hurt himself because he thinks that he deserves it for his sin.
In chapter 12 Dimmesdale stands o the scaffold to confess his sin and to feel how Hester did.
