Hi! I am Ruby Bridges. I was born in Tylertown, Mississippi on September 8th, 1954 .
Before I was born, the Supreme Court decided all schools that were segregated were not allowed. This got many white people mad.
Every single day before I was born, my parents worked day and night picking cotton. My parents did not want this for me, so we moved to New Orleans, Louisiana
When we moved, I went to a school for African - Americans. While I was going to continue school there, my school was making students take tests to see if they could be part of an all - white school. I took the test, and got enrolled to William Frantz Elementary School.
When I got to school, two federal marshals were there, waiting fo me. When I got inside, my teacher, Barbara Henry, was waiting for me.
Every day, I learned new stuff with her, and the school started integrating the school more. They made a painting of me, to show that separate is never equal. I became an activist, because separate is never equal.
