- Upon waking, Sophie discovers that she has developed a rash on her wrists and ankles, and a leech is attached to her calf. She also finds Otto covered with leeches, waiting for them to detach. Feeling desperate and vulnerable, Sophie watches the river for any sign of help, her hope waning as boat after boat passes by without stopping.

- Eventually, Sophie spots an old man with white hair piloting a boat, singing a familiar song from her childhood. She calls out to the man, whose name is Wello, and pleads for his help.
