The Shortcut

In this story, the dark forest represents the ''unfamiliar world" archetype referred to in the lesson. The girl in this story is used to represent the hero. Similar to the comic provided in the lesson, she is hesitant to go into the forest at first. After her friend convinces her everything is fine, proving himself as the reckless and naïve character often seen in horror storylines, she is forced to "cross the threshold" and enter the forest. She is further forced to do so when, instead of walking through quickly like she wanted, she needed to stop and take care of her friends wound. Lastly, instead of her friend reassuring her and protecting her like he seemed to be doing in the beginning of the story, she ended up being the one doing the protecting and helping him escape the vampire.
