  • During the development of a child’s childhood years we get to understand the value of play. Play is essential it contributes to the different stages in a child’s life. Play is unique, it’s not only about fun but it helps to promote and support the development and growth in children learning abilities. In this storyboard I will be talking about this unique pioneer Maria Montessroi and how she saw the importance of play in an inclusive learning environment.
  • Maria Montessori was born on August 31, 1870 in Charlotte, Italy. Her father, Alessandro, was an accountant, and her mother, Renilde Stoppani, was well educated and a voracious reader.
  •  Maria volunteered to participate in a study program at university of Rome's psychiatric clinic, and as part of her work at the clinic, she visited Rome's asylums for children with mental problems in search of patients for the clinic. She noticed that children were yearning for sensory stimulation and activities for their hands in such a stark, empty space, and that this deprivation was contributing to their ailments. She then started researching youngsters with learning differences.
  • The school's principal first refused Maria admission. She seemed unfazed, and she concluded her successful interview by saying, "I know I'll become a doctor." Montessori began her studies in physics, mathematics, and natural sciences at the University of Rome in 1980. Maria got her diploma two years later, allowing her to attend the college of medicine as one of Italy's first females and the first to study at the University of Rome. Her experience at medical school was never easy
  • As her education developed, she was able to break down the obstacles that prevented women from pursuing employment. She was recommended to pursue a teaching profession after college, but she declined since she aspires to be a doctor. Her father was opposed to her becoming a doctor since it was an all-boys' club.
  • Maria Montessori created her own school curriculum after seeing children with specific challenges and how they focus on learning through play. She saw how some items, such as puzzles, piqued the curiosity of youngsters with special needs. Her educational approach was founded on a child's "innate desire to learn." Her educational movement became unrivalled in the field of comprehending learning habits in impaired children and what makes a child's educational aim attainable. Montessori schools emphasised the significance of sensory awareness in learning and information retention in children, especially those with impairments. Her schooling also emphasised the significance of choice, initiative drive, personal interest, and self-expression.
  • Montessori stated "I did not establish a technique of teaching; I merely offered certain young children a chance to survive," Montessori said. She realised that children who were raised in an atmosphere that was meant to encourage their natural growth had a greater ability to educate themselves. Within a year, Montessori began to notice extraordinary growth, with children as young as five reading and writing. Montessori also felt that all instructors should be educated in dealing with all children.
