טקסט Storyboard

  • Saharanpur
  • What must I pay for this, since you charge for all animals?
  • No charge. It's not a dog.
  • Sir, you have a dog with you. You'll have to pay accordingly.
  • Grandfather buys Toto from a Tonga driver for 5 Rupees. He decides to add him to his private zoo and to keep him a secret from grandmother till she's in a particularly good mood since she wasn't fond of grandfather's animals.
  • Grandfather puts Toto in a little closet opening in the narrator's bedroom, to keep him hidden from Grandmother, but when he returns to check on Toto, 2 hours later, he finds the wallpaper is torn, the bedroom is in a mess, and the narrator's school blazer in shreds. He was then transferred to a big cage in the servants' quarters.
  • Grandfather leaves for Saharanpur, deciding to take Toto along. He kept him in a big, black canvas bag. While Grandfather was paying for his ticket, Toto peeped his little head out, scaring the ticket collector. With a grin, he tells Grandfather he has to pay an extra fare for the 'dog'. Grandfather tried to prove that Toto was not a dog and took out a tortoise from his coat pocket, asking if he had to pay for it too. He ended up paying Rs.3 for Toto.
  • I can't keep Toto anymore... He's up to no good!
  • Toto loved to take a bath during winter. Grandmother would give him a warm bowl of water for him to sit in. When the water became cold, he would get out and run quickly to the kitchen fire. One day, Toto managed to get himself inside a kettle that Grandmother had set for tea. This was fine for a while until the water began to boil. He continued hopping up and down in the kettle until grandmother hauled him out.
  • Toto was always up to mischief. He would always tear things to pieces. Whenever one of the narrator's aunts came near him, he made every effort to make a hole in it. One day, a large dish of pulao was set on the table. When grandmother entered, Toto was stuffing himself with rice. Grandmother screamed, and Toto threw a plate at her, when the narrator's aunt rushed forward, she received a glass of water in her face. Toto quickly made his exit, when grandfather came in, and climbed up a jackfruit tree. He stayed there all afternoon, determined to finish each grain.
  • Grandfather realised he couldn't keep Toto anymore. He couldn't afford the expenses that came with Toto; dishes, clothes, wallpaper, curtains etc. So Grandfather found the Tonga driver and sold Toto back for 3 Rupees.
