- During the covid 19 pandemic we were given free vaccinations at our school to protect us from getting covid or from getting it bad. With the original dose, the immune system is primed to recognize and produce antibodies against the virus it was created to defend. Booster shots are administered to remind the body's immune system about the virus it needs to defend against. This improves or gives the immune system a boost.
- Edward Jenner observed that people who had previously suffered from cowpox (generally the milkmaids) were not affected by small pox because they had acquired resistance from such diseases for lifelong. This prompted the discovery of small pox vaccine. He gave the patient a small amount of cowpox which would prevent them from catching the small pox. This was the first vaccine.
- These days we are able to go to our doctors and receive a vaccine they even give them out at school or when you are a baby. Vaccines can train your body to prevent sicknesses before they even start. They do this by introducing something called an antigen into the body, which imitates an infection and primes the immune system to respond.
