- At the end of the last book the main character Poppy gets betrayed by her love interest "Hawke" or now known as Casteel. Poppy feeling distraught runs from the camp and into the woods. After only minutes of running Poppy gets found by the Prince Casteel, and tries to kill him. After a battle Poppy ends up losing to the prince, so she has to go back with him.
- Poppy and Casteel embark on a journey to Casteel's home Atlaintia. They travel on horseback through the woods to get to their next checkpoint.
- While on their journey Poppy gets kidnapped by a vampry, a person who has ascended and drinks thrives on Atlatiain blood. The vampry means to bring back Poppy to the capital where Poppy originally ran away from. The vampry bites Poppy and almost drains her of all her blood when Casteel comes to her aid and rescues her.

- Casteel brings Poppy to a village that has been taken over by his Kingdom and is in the midst of rebuilding. They get word of an army of 1100 men are coming. With only 200 people to fight Poppy and Casteel take on the army and fight. They end in victory allowing them to be able to finally go to Atlantia.
- Casteel and Poppy have their wedding ceremony which is a very sacred tradition for Casteel's culture. When the ceremony ended the sky turned to dark in the middle of the day showing that one of the most powerful gods approved of this wedding. They got to spend the night peacefully, which would be quickly interrupted by what the next day brought.
- Poppy and Casteel arrive in Atlantia and are met with people who Casteel need to attend to. Poppy wonders off to a temple where she finds a large group of people. The people start throwing stones at her and yelling at her. Getting worked up semething magically happens to Poppy. When she looks around to see what happened to her she sees the Queen kneel with her last words being, "Kneel to your new queen."
