- 1687- Isaac Newton publishes his Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica. He sets his 3 laws of motion.
- July 4th, 1776- U.S declares independence from Great Britian.
- 1791- Thomas Paine publishes The Rights of Man in support of the French Revolution and republicanism.

- 1689- John Locke writes a major political work. He writes about Natural Rights which is a central idea of the Enlightenment period.
- Religious tolerance- People became intolerant to the monarchy and fix the dogmas of the church.
- The use of reason- Intellectuals such as Isaac Newton used reasoning to make new advancements in this time period.Philosophers believed that science and reason was responsible for human advancement.
