  • The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection:- Biogeography- Fossil Record
  • What is Biogeography?
  • Biogeography is the study of the geographical distribution of organisms, providing information about how and when species may have evolved. Fossils provide evidence of long-term evolutionary changes, documenting the past existence of species that are now extinct.
  • As shown on the map, the flying squirrel is found in North America and the Sugar Glider is found in Australia. Both are part of the same family. but however, have differences in their appearance. The one found in North America has a darker colour than the one in Australia. The one in Australia has a different print on its fur than the one in North America.
  • What is Fossil Records?
  • Fossils are the preserved remains or traces of animals, plants, and other organisms from the past. Fossils are important evidence for evolution because they show that life on earth was once different from life found on earth today.
  • As shown above, the fossils found are from the prehistoric era and the animals found were the T-rex and the Triceratops from millions of years ago. These remains have been preserved for this long. You can tell as well because of the different characteristics and appearances of these fossils and if you compare them to modern-day animals. They're completely different.
  • I've learnt a lot.
  • So kids, I hoped you learnt what the theory of evolution by natural selection is and how it makes up different aspects of evolution and how animals evolve over time.
  • That was fun.
