- Cause
- We have decided to create the Delian League but because we need money to train you must pay us taxes.
- We Spartans do not agree with this so lets go to war!
- Spartans March Into Athens
- They still want us to pay taxes so our only option is to march into Athens!
- Sparta Gains Victory
- What makes the Athenians think that they have the right to just come into Sicily. Well at least we defeated them, GO SPARTA!
- After the Persian War Athens started the Delian League. Sparta was unhappy because Athens abused this power and was controlling them. They went to war over this matter.
- Socrates
- I think that Greeks should question their morals and that there is a standard for truth and justice!
- During year two of the war Sparta marched into Athens. The Spartans burned the food supplies and the countryside around Athens. In response Athens brings all of their citizens inside the city walls.
- Plato
- I believe that all of you in front of me should fall into one of these groups: farmers and artisans, warriors, or the ruling class!
- In 415 BCE the Athenians sent a fleet of 20,000 men to Sicily. Sicily was one of Sparta's wealthiest allies and Athens planned on destroying them. Instead it ended in a crushing defeat for Athens.
- Aristotle
- I wonder why the world is the way it is? And why humans believe what they do?
- After the war Philosophers began to appear and Socrates was one of them. Socrates believed that standards did exist for truth and justice. Socrates also wanted the Greeks to question their morals. In 399 BCE he was brought to trial.
- Plato was a student of Socrates. Plato developed the idea of the Republic and believed that people should fall into three groups: farmers and artisans, warriors, and lastly the ruling class.
- Aristotle was Plato's pupil. Aristotle questioned the nature of the world along with human belief, thought, and knowledge. Aristotle also developed the foundation for the scientific method.
