Hello everyone, I have called you here today because we need to clarify the doctrines of the Catholic Church.

In 1545 Pope Paul III convened at the council of Trent to redefine the doctrines of the Catholic faith. It was not just one meeting; they met off and on till 1563. In this meeting, they talked about how the Protestants had criticized the practices of the Catholic Church, so they decided to clarify their doctrines.
They discussed many things over the years. But, they never made any compromises between the Catholics and the Protestants.
In 1542, to fight Protestantism, the Inquisition started. Anybody who was believed to be a heretic would be tortured, and then once they confessed, they would be killed in numerous ways. Most of the time, the people accused did nothing wrong or were accused by someone who disliked them. It was a horrible time to be alive in. They also believed with craft was real, and they burned people they suspected to be withchs.
