- John Paul Jones was born in Arbigland, Scotland on July 6, 1747, and became an apprentice to the British Navel Marines at age 13.

- In 1773 on Tobago Island John Paul must defend himself against mutinous sailor which ended in the sailor’s untimely demise. John Paul was afraid that he would not be given a fair trial, so he changed his name and fled to America.

- The Revolutionary war began in 1775 after John Paul Jones arrived in America. John Paul Jones sides with the colonists to fight against the British by joining the continental navy.
- International Hero
- John Paul Jones rose through the ranks of the Navy. From Captain of the USS Providence to Commanding, the Ranger (which was the first American vessel to be saluted by a foreign power) and later his own warship the Bon Homme Richard named after a book by Benjamin Franklin.
- Year 1779 When on the way to attack British shipping, John Paul Jones and the crew of the Bon Homme encountered a superior English Warship, The HMS Serapis. The two warships trade gunfire for three hours until Jones slammed the Serapis with the Bon Homme. After devastating damage taken by a grenade throw by one of Jones' officers the British surrender.
- John Paul Jones is remembered as one of America's greatest navel commanders of the Revolutionary war. The surprising victory over a much stronger warship mad him a International hero.
