- "Feed him up!"
- "Dirty weather ahead, sir. Wind backing into the south-west, seas confused, glass falling"
- "Look out, Stuart! Look out where you're going!"
- Mrs. Little gave birth to a mouse who she called Stuart. It was her second son. She was very nervous because Stuart was hardly growing so she called a doctor but the doctor said he was fine. The doctor said to feed him.
- "Nothing that I can think of offhand."
- "There is nothing to stop me from eating her, is there?"
- Stuart is in a boat race but their is really bad weather and now he is about to run into a giant paper bag! Later he ends up winning the race.
- "What's the first subject you usually take up in the morning?"
- Arithmetic
- Mrs. Little finds a small brown bird laying down on her window sill. The bird's name is Margalo and she and Stuart soon become friends.
- "I only wish we had better weather."
- "If it rains, it rains."
- Snowball, the Little's cat, is talking to his friend and they are planning for his friend to eat Margalo tomorrow night. Luckily a pigeon overhears their conversation and warns Margalo. Margalo leaves the next day.
- Stuart went to go look for Margalo but on his way to find her he ends up teaching Number Seven school for a day while the teacher is sick. Stuart teaches them about what is important in life like ice cream with chocolate sauce as well as other strange stuff.
- Stuart comes to a town called Ames Crossing. He sees a girl named Harriet who is the same size as him so he ask her to come canoeing with him but when she comes they find the canoe broken. Later Stuart continues on his way North to find Margalo.
