- Carol can't do much work. She got pregnant with a boy right after we departed. She is sick and fears the baby won't make it
- Lily was the maid of the captain. She just weaves all day.
- Gabby was a farmer in the southern area. Her family was taken to work a field. She is sailing for her freedom
- Violet is the head Navigator. She has a sight problem. She thinks dolphins are sea monsters.

- All of the men had died of sickness. Poor Lily. Captain Joseph was her father. He had to sell her sister to afford this new ship. He always called it the Caraval. We called it a boat. We were low life from Portugal looking for gold to save our children. We didn't have much, but each other.
- Goodbye Friends. Take care of Baby Hopeful.
- Once, Violet thought she saw a sea monster and started shouting. We couldn't figure out where we were, our navigation system (a compass) broke. We all thought we were going towards the equator and were going to burn up. We were so scared. The monster ended up being a dolphin.
- RUN LILY!! GET OUT OF THERE!! HIDE!! NOOOO!!
- We thought that Gabby's baby wouldn't come for another 2 weeks but it came early. Gabby didn't make it. We named her baby Hope for how much we missed her and hoped we make it out alive.
- Immediately after we made it half way, we ran into another ship. Lily didn't see that everyone had hid. We were all calling for her to come and hide. She doesn't believe in being a coward. She was at most the bravest. She got captured. She went down a hero.
- Gabby and I were the only ones left on the boat. It took another 3 months along with surviving small pox, to be insight of land. Gabby was more effected than me. I honestly thought there was no hope for here. I was sure she wouldn't make it! I would pray for hours by her side, wanting god to heal her. Somehow, my prayers were answered.
- We ended up making it to Asia after all! We still need to get Violet to an eye doctor...
