  • In 1872, Standard Oil Company had acquired its rival, Ohio Refinery 22/26, within six weeks. Ida Tarbell was only 14 at the time when she experienced the impact first hand. The 1872 Cleveland massacre caused permanent damage to her father's oil company which devastated him.
