Mom! Today in literature class I learnt about literary devices!
I will have to share with my friends who were absent
We did literary devices in class last week Friday. Let me tell you about it.
Literary devices are tools writers use to hint at larger themes, ideas and meaning in a story or piece of writing.
We have to go to the library to do the homework to find examples.
2. Anaphora - Using a particular word more than once to add artistic effects. We are going to the shops and we re going to buy fruits so we can eat healthy.
Example of a literary device;1. Analogy - The comparison of two items using a simile.“What you’re doing is as useful as rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.”
5. Idioms - Phrases that say one thing but mean the other. You took a bullet to your face
4. Hyperbole - When you exaggerate over statements or claims. I can eat a horse.
3. Alliteration - Using the same beginning letter. She sells seashells by the sea shore.
8. Onomatopoeia - when you make words from sounds. The pot is sizzling
6. Irony - The expression of one's meaning by using language that signifies opposite. Clear as day.
7. Metaphor - Compares two things like they are the same item. The Clouds were Marshmallows.
9. Personification - writing about inanimate objects as if they were persons. The sun smiled right at my house.
10. Simile - Compares two things using like or as. As light as a feather.
