- archduke franz ferdinand was going to become king of austria but he got assassinated on june 28th 1914 because the people of serbia thought that austria was mistreating the people that live in austria and the herd that archduke was coming to visit and they thought by killing him that the serbian people would rise and be free from austria and so the group the black hand one of their members Gavrilo Princip jumped out and killed archduke and his wife archduke was shot in the chest and stomach and the assassination led to WW1
- the sinking of the maine all started because the spanish were mistreating the cubans and the spanish was planning on stopping cuba from fighting back and there was american citizens on cuba so america put a battleship in one of the harbors and on February 15 1898 the maine was sunk and we thought that the spanish blew it up and so we declared war on the spanish
- the spanish american war started because of the sinking of the maine and america thought that it was the spanish and the war started on april 21 1898 and theodore roosevelt led the rough riders to later on to defeat the spanish and the war ended on august 13 1898 and there was a peace treaty and the peace treaty said that spain freed cuba and Spain gave Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States then spain sold the philippines to the united states and this made america an imperialist country because it was the first time that america owned land outside of america
