- Hello class! I'm sure you're aware or the fur trade quiz coming up, and we need to study. Since we learned FOUR phases of the fur trade so far, today you will be learning about the fifth!
- When did phase five start? When did it end? Also, what was the tension like there?
- I thought there was only four phases??!?!! What is happening ?

- There was so much competition between the HBC and the NWC, it led to hostage takings, fights, and even shootings!
- Well! I'm glad you asked! Phase rive of the fur trade started in 1821, and ended in 1870. But you were right! There was some tension there!
- After that, the fur trade even started to lose importance.
- But in 1821, Britain ended the conflict by merging both the Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company!
- I also tried researching a bit yesterday, and I read that Rupert's land was a part of Britain. Why and how is it a part of Canada now?
- WHAT IS A RUPERTS LAND?!?!?!
- Oh yes! I forgot! Britain was worried they'd lose Rupert's land, and after that, in 1869, Rupert's land was sold to Canada! ALso, in phase five, the fur trade slowly started to lose importance. Plus, all this happened in what is now.. Canada!
