- Westward we go to achieve our destiny! It is our divine right to expand from sea to shining.  
- Oh no! In our quest to expand, we angered Mexico when we annexed Texas!  Now we have to go to war in the Mexican-American War. 
- After we finished the war, all this new territory is now ours! We have achieved our goal of spreading west and still want more. But first we have to solve domestic problems.
- To deal with the problem of free states and slave states, we introduced the Compromise of 1850. However, the compromise was not a success and only furthered sectionalism values. 
- Oh no! The south seceded from the Union and started a civil war with the north over "states rights" (slavery). 
- Yeah! The war is over! However, we still have to deal with reconstruction as the South is badly damaged and needs to face consequences for seceding.
