טקסט Storyboard

  • Really? I'm not sure if I really understand what's going on.
  • Hey Anna did you hear about this micrometer and vernier lab we have coming up?
  • Hmm. Maybe I can help.
  • Oh yea. Sounds like it'll be fun. I kinda like this topic.
  • I think so. The micrometer has a an anvil and spindle that grip the object you would measure. It has a lock to hold the object tightly and a ratchet to ensure that too much pressure is not exerted on the object right?
  • Ohh! I know this actually. The vernier caliper has internal and external jaws that measure internal and external diameters, a tail that measures depth and two scales.
  • So, a vernier caliper has an internal and external j...
  • Great! Do you remember how the micrometer looks?
  • Correct. But the micrometer also has two scales that you use to get your readings. The main scale is on the sleeve and the other scale is on the thimble.
  • Ahhh. Ok. Hmmm. I'm not too sure what they are used to measure but I know its like small stuff right?
  • Oh yeah. I forgot about the scales for the micrometer. So I definitely know the different parts of each instrument. Is it just that and how to take a reading that we need to know?
  • Exactly! They are used to measure small objects. Since the vernier has a SD of 0.01cm and a range of 0-12.5cm it is usually used to measure the diameter of circular objects.
  • Nope. To really understand the instruments you need to also know what they are used to measure.
  • A wire? Wow that's really small. So the micrometer can even smaller objects than the vernier can.
  • Ok. That makes sense. I think I remember seeing them measure the internal diameter of a beaker in the video miss sent. So they mean circlular objects like pipes and test tubes?
  • Anna and Charlise are chatting about upcoming assessments for class.
  • Yes that's true. It's really cool to see how these instruments can measure objects so small. A micrometer can even measure the diameter of a stranc of hair!
  • Thats right. You're getting it. Now the micrometer has an SD of 0.01mm and a range of 0-25mm and can be used to measure the diameter of a wire.
  • Anna starts describing both instruments to Charlise. Charlise interrupts her and shares what she remembers about the vernier caliper and micrometer screw gauge.
  • Ok but who really uses these instruments? Like I can't imagine why you would need to measure a wire or test tube.
  • Well
  • Anna tells Charlise what vernier calipers are used to measure and why.
  • Anna and Charlise discuss what the micrometer can measure and why.
  • Wow!
