- The Burning of Washington DC. On August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain, British forces successfully invaded Washington, D.C., and set fire to several key government buildings, including the White House and the Capitol.

- The Battle of Fort McHenry, fought during the War of 1812, occurred from September 13 to 14, 1814, near Baltimore, Maryland. The British Navy, was seeking to control Chesapeake Bay and put pressure on the American forces, attacked Fort McHenry. Throughout the night of September 13, the fort was bombarded by British forces, Despite sustaining lots of damage, the American flag, defiantly flying over Fort McHenry, remained intact.
