טקסט Storyboard

  • After a long tiring day, Wendy goes to her kitchen to eat. She made a variety of foods because she was so hungry.
  • After she finished her meal, she had a strange feeling.
  • "The food is great, but I'm not sure what's going on inside my stomach, is it because I ate a lot?, hmmm..."
  • Amylase is an enzyme (a type of protein) that aids in the digestion of food.
  • Hello there! My name is Amylase the Enzyme. I'm a biological catalyst that accelerates reactions without using up its resources. In a nutshell, I'm in charge of the start decomposition process! Starch products would take weeks to absorb if not for us!
  • A substrate is any material that reacts with an enzyme's active site.
  • I take in components known as substrates and transform them into the finished product!
  • SUBSTRATE
  • Active site is the part of enzyme where the substrate binds.
  • As you can see, the substrate starch also known as the active, fits neatly within my mouth. The chemical reaction takes place here. If another substrate, such as protein arrives, it will not fit into the active site. It is what enzyme specificity is all about.
  • ACTIVE SITE
  • My active site changes shape to keep the substrate fixed since the bonds between me and the substrate are vey weak. This is referred to as induced fit.
  • Enzymes have a "lock-key mechanism" that prevents them from opening unless the correct key is entered.
  • I break down the substrates into end products after some time. In this scenario, I'm breaking down starch molecules into maltose molecules.
