- This repeated phrase creates suspense because The narrator is always talking about the old man's eyes which creates suspense.
- The coming back and forth to the old man's room and stalking him symbolizes that maybe the narrator is thinking about what he's about to do and is saying in his head not to do it.
- "Everynight , about mindnight,I turned the latch of his door and opened it"
- An example of imagery is the narrator watching the old man sleep. This contributes to suspense because the narrator could be thinking of ways to kill the old man or making the old man wait to kill him more.
