- Hi I'm Humphry Davy, a British chemist in 1790. I'm conducting detailed studies on nitrous oxide. I'm experimenting with inhaling the gas and noting its euphoric effects, so I'll call it "laughing gas." I'll publish my findings in 1800 in the book "Researches, Chemical and Philosophical."

- Basically, in 1772, Joseph Priestley discovered nitrous oxide by heating ammonium nitrate and collecting the resulting gas. He documented the properties of the gas but did not explore its effects extensively. Here's some info about us both!

- YES!! 😡Nitrous oxide is used as a dental anesthetic, which benefits public health because it allows us to safely perform procedures without the use of general anesthesia. Dental anxiety or fear of discomfort prevents many people from receiving the dental care they need. Nitrous oxide can alleviate this fear by helping patients of all ages feel relaxed and pain-free.

It is also illegal to possess nitrous oxide with the intent of intoxication. However, it’s fairly easy to purchase because of its other uses (such as pressurizing whipped cream dispensers) and was the second-most used recreational drug among 16-24 year olds in the UK in 2020. A U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration 2019 survey found that almost 13 million Americans aged 12 and older had misused nitrous oxide in their lifetime.
